What to get Mom when you can’t take her out to dinner or bring the grandkids over for a visit?
Flowers, of course.
This is what my store’s floral department looked like by closing time Saturday night.
Heightened demand combined with reduced deliveries to create a buying spree we haven’t seen since the Great Toilet Paper Rush.
There were a few leftovers – some sad-looking yarrow, pussy willows, dried lavender, a single pot of bright red geraniums.
There will, no doubt, be many disappointed sons and daughters at the store today.
The last person to leave happy: a fellow nightshift worker who shopped before we opened this morning. He bought the geraniums.
“I got lucky,” he said.
