V is for Valentine

Posted on February 14, 2020February 14, 2020 by Wegmaniacal

Pardon the pun, but it’s heartening to see men (and it’s mostly men) buying flowers at 4 a.m.

No matter the hour, checkout has been one long Rose Bowl parade.

People have bought flowers, balloons, chocolates, cards, teddy bears and at least one stuffed giraffe.

They have done so without embarrassment or apology. It’s the one day a year when everybody is a softie.

God I love Wegmans on Valentines Day. Bunch of dudes staring at the flower section for ten minutes while sweating. Hang in there fellas

IF YOU NEED FLOWERS, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FLORISTS. Stop buying flowers from wegmans, price chopper, & Wal-Mart!!! pic.twitter.com/ABUoK043OQ

Waiting to celebrate Valentine’s Day until tomorrow, when love is 50% off.

About This Site

Upstate New Yorkers love their Wegmans, with a bond that newer customers in other parts of the East are discovering. As a customer and former employee, I share the obsession.

I launched Wegmaniacal in December 2019, to examine the cultlike following the company has developed since its founding in Rochester more than a century ago.

The site stagnated when I left Wegmans and returned to other endeavors. But with rising grocery prices, lowering environmental regulation, and pharmaceutical challenges, it’s time to resume writing here.

Much of what I have to say is positive. Nevertheless, the company is family owned and most of its operations are conducted in private. As a longtime journalist, I’ll also delve into topics Danny Wegman would prefer to keep behind closed doors.
